Yakima Bears News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - Andrew Wolcott impressed for seven innings and Tyrell Worthington came through with a clutch hit early as the Yakima Bears (24-44) shutout the Spokane Indians (34-34) 2-0 in the series opener in front of 1,960 fans at County Stadium Saturday night.
With two outs and a 1-2 count, Worthington drove home the only runs of the night with a single into right field in the second inning, scoring Matt Helm and Astolfo Inciarte.
The Indians made it interesting in the top of the ninth, when closer Brian Budrow allowed the tying run to reach second base before getting Alberto Puello to ground into a game-ending double play to earn his fifth save of the season.
Wolcott (3-5) pitched seven shutout frames, allowing just four hits while striking out three and walking one to pick up the victory, in his first appearance since August 18. Spokane starter Braden Tullis (3-3) tossed five frames, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking two to absorb the loss.
Yakima snaps a seven-game losing streak in its first game without All-Star first baseman Ryan Wheeler, who was promoted to South Bend following Friday night's ballgame.
The two clubs will be back at it Sunday evening at 5:35. Chris Odegaard (1-7, 4.30 ERA) takes the mound for the Bears against Ben Henry (2-3, 6.80 ERA) for the Indians.
All 76 games can be heard on KUTI 1460 AM and are also available streaming via the internet at www.yakimabears.com.
Yakima Bears single-game tickets, season tickets and seven new mini plans are on sale now at the new downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
