Durdin Returns to Quad Cities

Moline, IL-The Quad Mallards announced today that the team has signed defensemen Sergei Durdin and Bryan Gent. Durdin's rights were acquired this summer in the United Hockey League Dispersal Draft. The 26-year old Latvian rearguard is expected to be ready for this weekend's games. He returns to the Quad Cities after playing 60 games in a Mallards sweater during the 2004-05 season. Gent, a rookie defenseman, began this season with the Chicago Hounds.

In 2005-06, Durdin skated in 67 games for the now-defunct Danbury Trashers of the UHL. He recorded 24 points (four goals and 20 assists) with the Trashers during the regular season. Durdin also made his American Hockey League debut last season as he appeared in two games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He was held scoreless and recorded two penalty minutes while playing in Bridgeport.

In the playoffs, Durdin was a key component of the Trashers' run to the Colonial Cup Final. He appeared in all 18 Danbury playoff games and scored 10 points (a goal with nine assists). He led the league in post-season plus/minus rating with a plus 12 mark. He ranked second amongst UHL defensemen in post-season assists and points.

Former Chicago Hound defenseman Bryan Gent was also added to the Mallards line-up today. Gent is a rookie defenseman that played six games this season with the Hounds. The Milton, Ontario native was held scoreless and accumulated four penalty minutes while playing in Chicago. He played four seasons of college hockey at SUNY-Oswego. As a senior in 2005-06, he set a career high with four points (all assists) and 35 penalty minutes.

In other transaction news, the Mallards announced today that forward Ray Smegal and defenseman Ryan Olynyk have been waived.

The Mallards return to the ice tonight in Chicago. The team faces-off with the Hounds beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show will begin at 7:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. The team returns home for a pair of weekend games vs. Port Huron and Kalamazoo. On Saturday night, the Flags visit The MARK beginning at 7 p.m. The defending Colonial Cup Champion Kalamazoo Wings are at The MARK for the first time this season beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Mallards are offering a Veteran's Day Ticket Discount to all active and retired military personnel. Fans that present their military identification cards at The MARK box office will receive two tickets to this weekend's Mallards games for just $20.

Mel Foster, the Mallards and The MARK are collecting phone cards for troops. To participate, fans can deposit phone cards (good for 90 minutes or more) into the footlocker located at the new Mallards Team Store at The MARK. The cards will then be distributed to soldiers both domestically and overseas. This campaign kicks off this weekend and will continue until December 15th. All fans that participate will receive two Mallards tickets for the price of one.
