Dupere's Dazzling Debut Propels Giants To Walk-Off Win
July 17, 2022 - California League (CalL)
San Jose Giants News Release
Jared Dupere's RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning propelled the San Jose Giants to a thrilling 4-3 walk-off victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday evening at Excite Ballpark. Dupere, who was making his home debut with the Giants, also homered as part of a three-hit night at the plate. San Jose rallied in extras answering Visalia's single run in the top of the 10th with a two-run bottom of the inning to secure their second walk-off win in three days. The Giants (49-37, 9-11 second half) have now claimed three of the first five games in the series against the Rawhide.
San Jose was looking to bounce back on Saturday after a blowout loss to Visalia the previous night. Nick Sinacola started on the mound and fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts to begin his outing. The Rawhide would then push across a single run in the top of the third against Sinacola as JJ D'Orazio led off with a double and scored on Jean Walters' one-out single to make it 1-0.
The Giants though immediately responded in the bottom of the third when Dupere, in his first-ever at-bat at Excite Ballpark, blasted a solo home run to deep right. It was his first homer in the California League and it tied the game 1-1.
An unearned run against Sinacola in the top of the fourth, however, would give Visalia back the lead. Wilderd Patino led off with an infield single and then stole second - his league-leading 53rd steal of the year. Moments later, Patino stole third and scored the go-ahead run when San Jose catcher Adrian Sugastey threw the ball down the left field line for an error.
Sinacola would then cruise for the remainder of his start tossing three scoreless innings over the fourth, fifth and sixth. He retired eight of the final nine batters he faced.
The score was still at 2-1 until the Giants scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Consecutive walks to Carter Williams and Hayden Cantrelle started the inning before a Yorlis Rodriguez sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third. Alexander Suarez then brought home Williams with an RBI groundout to second to bring San Jose even at 2-2.
The game then remained deadlocked all the way until the 10th. Spencer Bivens fired two hitless innings out of the Giants bullpen in the seventh and eighth before Ofelky Peralta breezed through a 1-2-3 top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Williams singled with one out, but was stranded when the next two batters were retired.
The Rawhide would then take advantage of their free runner at second base in the top of the 10th to reclaim the lead. With Peralta still on the mound, Jacen Roberson grounded out to second advancing the runner to third before D'Orazio's sacrifice fly to right put Visalia in front by a 3-2 margin.
San Jose though wasted no time in the bottom of the 10th using back-to-back hits to start the inning to score the tying and then winning run. With Rodriguez as the automatic runner at second base, Suarez led off by hitting a high chopper over the head of the third baseman Walters and down the left field line. The single easily scored Rodriguez to tie the game 3-3. Dupere was up next and he hammered an 0-2 pitch off the fence in the left field corner for a double as Suarez raced around the bases and scored the winning run to spark a walk-off celebration.
