Duo From Pima Community College To Play For Kings

Champion City Kings News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Oh. - Pitchers Cole Plouck and Scotty Watson were teammates at Empire High School before again becoming teammates at Pima Community College. They'll remain teammates this summer as members of the Champion City Kings.

Plouck, a sophomore left-hander, is enjoying an outstanding season as the 30-19 Aztecs' top starter this season. Through 71.2 innings pitched, Plouck holds a 1.51 ERA. He has thrown three complete-games, tossed a shutout, and has picked up a pair of saves. The Tucson, Ariz., native has also struck out 64 batters against just 44 walks.

Kings manager Brett Neffendorf expects more of the same from Plouck this summer. "We expect Cole to come in right away and compete for a spot in the starting rotation," Neffendorf said. "He's going to bump the low 90's with power off-speed stuff."

Watson, also a sophomore from Tucson, Ariz., has started nine games for the Aztecs, owns a 3-1 record and an ERA of 3.11. Through 46.1 innings pitched, Watson has struck out 36 batters and has walked just 20.

"Scotty is a big, physical frame with a big-time breaking ball and hard fastball," said Neffendorf. "If he can command his off speed stuff, he will have a big summer for us."

The Kings open the 2014 season at home against the Chillicothe Paints on Wednesday, May 28 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at wwww.championcitykings.com.
