SOUTHAVEN, MS --- When it comes to stellar performances in the Central Hockey League (CHL), there was none finer than the one that occurred in front of Mississippi RiverKings hockey fans during the 2009-2010 season at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
RiverKings' forward Louis Dumont put together the CHL Performance of the Year on December 4th, scoring four goals in a five-minute time frame of the third period, bringing the team back from a 3-2 deficit against the Colorado Eagles and helping the team claim a 6-3 victory.
Fans around the CHL voted Dumont's four-goal performance as the top effort in the league during the season. The balloting came in an online vote done through Monday, April 12th on the league website.
Dumont's four-goal performance was named by 42% of those who cast ballots. Next in line was Bossier-Shreveport's Simon Mangos scoring twice in a 11-round shootout helping the Mudbugs defeat Odessa 5-4 after trailing 3-0 in a game on October 24th. 21% of the 2,729 people who voted supported that effort as Performance of the Year.
In the December 4th game where Dumont fashioned his four goal performance, the four goals came on five shots on net. The first red-lighter came with just over seven minutes remaining in the game and tied it at 3-3.
Dumont's next two goals came on the power play, the first at 14:33 of the final period and became the eventual game-winning goal. He followed that with another power play goal 1:26 later at 15:59.
The final goal came into an empty net with 1:28 left in the contest.
He added three assists in the next game for a seven-point weekend, which earned his CHL Performance of the Week and Player of the Week honors. It also held up as the top single-game goal scoring achievement of the entire season.
The fourth-year RiverKing and veteran of 16 professional hockey seasons finished the year second on the team's scoring charts with 23 goals and 63 points. Dumont also was tied for second on the Mississippi roster with four game-winning goals.
