
Dumont Nears Scoring Record

PRINCETON, N.J. â Mississippi's Louis Dumont enters Sunday's game against Texas needing two points to tie Rod Taylor for the all-time ECHL scoring lead. Dumont had a goal and an assist on Thursday giving him 687 career points to move into sole possession of second place.
Mississippi will host Texas at 4:05 p.m. CT on Sunday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. In the first meeting between the two on October 26, Dumont had an assist in the Sea Wolves 4-2 win.
In his 10th season in the ECHL, Dumont has scored 17 points (8g-9a) in 16 games for the Sea Wolves including six points (3g-3a) in his last four games and 13 points (6g-7a) in his last 10 games. Dumont has scored four points (1g-3a) in six home games and 13 points (7g-6a) in 10 road games in 2003-04. He has 687 points in 578 regular season ECHL games and ranks eighth in career goals with 264 and second in career assists with 423. He needs 37 assists to tie all-time leader Chris Valicevic and four goals to tie Jay Murphy for seventh place.
Taylor, who played 12 seasons in the ECHL, set the career mark on January 29 as a member of the South Carolina Stingrays with whom he scored 18 points (8g-10a) in 31 regular season games in 2002-03. He also played two games for Peoria in 2002-03, registering an assist, and two games with Toledo. Taylor, who played all but 18 of his professional games in the ECHL, holds the career ECHL regular season records for points (689), goals (368), 30-goal seasons (8) and consecutive 30-goal seasons (6).
Dumont, who has played all but 10 of his professional games in North America in the ECHL, led the league in 2001-02 with 70 assists and 102 points for Pensacola, helping the Ice Pilots return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He was voted as a starter for the Southern Conference in the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game, where he won the fastest skater competition, and also earned First Team All-ECHL honors.
He returned to Pensacola in 2002-03 and led the team with 51 assists while ranking second in scoring with 71 points. Traded to Pensacola prior to the 2001-02 season, Dumont scored 173 points (52g-121a) in 140 regular season games and six points (2g-4a) in seven Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Ice Pilots.
The 30-year-old Dumont began his professional career in the ECHL in 1994-95 scoring 58 points (25g-33a) in 62 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) in three postseason games with the Wheeling Thunderbirds. He also scored a goal in five regular season games with Tallahassee of the ECHL and played two games with Syracuse of the American Hockey League. He returned to Wheeling in 1995-96 and had 63 points (24g-39a) in 66 regular season games and three points (0g-3a) in six postseason games.
In 1996-97 with Louisiana, Dumont scored 87 points (42g-45a) in 64 regular season games and helped the IceGators advance to the Kelly Cup Finals with 17 points (6g-11a) in 17 playoff games. He scored 79 points (31g-48a) in 66 regular season games with Louisiana in 1997-98 and helped the IceGators advance to the Southern Conference Finals with 11 points (6g-5a) in 12 postseason games while also scoring two points (0g-2a) in five games with Manitoba of the International Hockey League.
The 5-10 and 180-pound Dumont opened 1999-2000 with the Ayr Scottish Eagles in the British Super League scoring five points (1g-4a) in 14 games. He returned to North America and Augusta in the ECHL where he scored 63 points (26g-37a) in 60 regular season games and helped the Lynx reach the Southern Conference Semifinals scoring seven points (2g-5a) in 12 playoff games. He returned to Augusta in 2000-01 and scored 72 points (25g-47a) in 60 regular season games and five points (1g-4a) in three playoff games while also playing three games with Lowell of the American Hockey League.
