Cook was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and comes from a family of athletes as his father played basketball in the Air Force Academy, Mother, volleyball and basketball at the Air force Academy and Grandpa played baseball at Wyoming. Along with an uncle that played football in college. Cook decided to be a student-athlete at Pepperdine due to "the great academics, sports, location and coaches."

His success continued off the field as he was student body Vice president and an All-State Academic first team three years in a row.
