Long Island Ducks celebrate a walk-off win

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks swept a single admission doubleheader from the York Revolution on Wednesday night at Bethpage Ballpark, taking game one 3-2 in eight innings and game two 1-0 in eight innings.
The Ducks opened the scoring in first inning of game one on an RBI single to center field by Hector Sanchez off Revolution starter Ricky Eusebio. York evened the game at one in the fourth on Carlos Franco's solo home run to left field off Ducks starter Darin Downs. A bases loaded walk to Angelys Nina in the fifth put the Revs in front 2-1.
Long Island responded in the bottom of the fifth, as a leadoff solo homer to left by D'Arby Myers evened the score at two. It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when Deibinson Romero won the game with a two-out RBI single off the left field wall.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Downs pitched five innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out four. Eusebio lasted four and one-third innings, yielding two runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout. Cody Mincey (6-0) collected the win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Philip Walby (0-1) took the loss, conceding the winning run on one hit and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Both starters came out firing in game two, as they dueled over the first seven innings of the game. Ducks starter Vin Mazzaro gave up just four hits and one walk over his seven scoreless innings, striking out seven batters. Revolution starter Mitch Atkins yielded just four hits and struck out nine in his seven shutout frames, with neither factoring in the decision.
The only run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the eighth. Daniel Fields was placed on second to begin the inning, Ramon Cabrera moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt, and Sanchez won the game with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to left.
Pedro Beato (2-2) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one. Jameson McGrane (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing the winning run despite not giving up a hit or walk.
The Ducks and Revolution wrap up their three-game series on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It's Suffolk County Boy Scout Night at the ballpark, the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Leeewww Ford T-Shirts, courtesy of BNB Bank. It's also a Thirsty Thursday, with drink specials available in the brand new Adult Zone. Ducks staff members will also be handing out protein bars, courtesy of RXBAR, as fans exit the ballpark following the game. Right-hander Seth Simmons (5-7, 4.51) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Revolution righty Dan Minor (7-6, 4.24).
