Brooklyn Aviators News Release
Brooklyn, NY - Angelo Serse tallied two goals and Kevin Druce stopped 37 shots to lead the Aviators to a 4-3 victory over the 1000 Islands Privateers on Saturday night in Federal Hockey League Action.
Chris Holmes also chipped in with a goal and an assist, as the A's picked up their 10th home win of the season and also brought their winning streak to four games.
New York jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead over the Privateers at the 2:41 mark of the first, after Serse picked up his sixth goal of the season on a deflection that got past 1000 Islands' net minder Rich Sillery. The Privateers, though, wasted no time to tie the game up just four minutes later. Tyler Fernandez found a loose puck in the slot and wristed it over Druce for his 19th of the year.
Serse would put New York back on top 2-1, with his second of the game, and seventh of the season, on a beautiful backhand redirection with 3:30 left in the opening frame. Andrew Scampoli then capped off the first 20 minutes with his 11th tally of the campaign at the 19:09 mark. Scampoli found a bouncing puck alone in the slot, and snapped past Sillery to give the A's the two-goal lead at 3-1.
Halfway through the middle frame, Holmes broke in on Sillery shorthanded, and roofed a shot for his 10th goal of the season. New York took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission after Druce stood tall turning aside all 16 shots the Privateers sent his way.
The Privateers scored two late goals in the third period, with one on the power play, however it wasn't enough as New York held on for the victory.
Druce gets his 12th win of the season, while Sillery is nabbed with his fifth loss despite stopping 13 shots.
With the win, New York moves to 15-12-2 on the season to give them 32 points. The Privateers fall to 19-9-5.
The Aviators will take on the Akwesasne Warriors on Sunday night at the Aviators Sports and Events Center to close out the weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30PM and great tickets are still available by logging onto www.newyorkaviators.com, or by calling 718-758-7580.
