Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - The Drive (26-22) would like the last three days to be a distant memory. After being outscored in the first two games of the series with the RiverDogs, 27-3, thinks took an even more odd turn Thursday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, David Mailman roped what appeared to be a two-out double, scoring Mike Jones from second. However after Charleston appealed the play, home plate umpire Jeremy Crowe overruled that Jones had missed third base, negating the run.

The ball continued to roll in the RiverDogs (31-16) favor as they scored a pair of runs in each of the final two innings to defeat the Drive, 5-2.

Charleston extended their one-run lead in top of the eighth as Jesus Montero knocked in a pair with a two-out single off Ryne Lawson.

The Drive cut the deficit to one as they scored their only runs in the bottom of the eighth. Yamaico Navarro hit a sacrifice fly and Will Vazquez later scored on Mike Jones' grounder that was booted by shortstop Carmen Angelini.

However, a rally was not meant to be as the RiverDogs added two more runs in the ninth. Dave Williams hit a sacrifice fly and Austin Krum added an RBI-double.

Both teams received excellent starter as Felix Doubront (5-2) faced off against Lance Pendleton (3-2). Doubront endured the tough-luck loss, allowing just one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

Pendleton was near unhittable for 6.0 innings of his own, allowing just a double to Luis Exposito with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Drive and RiverDogs conclude their four-game series tomorrow evening with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Eammon Portice will toe the rubber for Greenville in the finale as Charleston counters with righty Noel Castillo. Friday night will also feature a spectacular post-game fireworks display.
