Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (27-20) were shutout by the Savannah Sand Gnats (19-28) 3-0 on Thursday night. Starter Steven Calicutt suffered the loss and Augusta was held to just three hits by Savannah starter Maikel Cleto.

Cleto (1-3) worked the full nine innings allowing just three hits, no walks and struck out two for his first win of the season.

Already leading 1-0 heading into the sixth inning, the Sand Gnats plated two more runs for a 3-0 lead. With two on and one out Joaquin Rodriguez connected for an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Richard Pena scored the second run of the half inning on a throwing error from shortstop Ramon Corona on a ball hit by Tony Maccani.

Calicutt (2-3) worked 5.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits. Calicutt walked two and struck out three in the loss.

Augusta got singles from Shane Jordan, Garrett Baker and Thomas Neal in the game and Augusta did not have a single runner reach third base.

The GreenJackets and Sand Gnats continue their series on Friday night with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (2-3, 4.42) to the mound as Augusta looks for the series win. Savannah counters with right-hander Scott Moviel (3-5, 6.41). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta fell to 12-13 at home.

Joe Paterson, Waldis Joaquin and Dan Runzler worked the final 3.2 shutout innings for Augusta.

The GreenJackets lost for the first time in May to a team other than the Columbus Catfish, Augusta is 15-5 in the month of May.
