Drillers open season tonight
April 6, 2006 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers will begin pursuit of the team's fourth Texas League Championship tonight by hosting the Wichita Wranglers at Drillers Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.
The game will be the first in a nine-game homestand for the Drillers to begin the season. Tulsa will host Wichita for a 4-game series through Sunday, April 9. After a day off on the 10th, the Springfield Cardinals will visit Drillers Stadium for a 5-game series April 11-15.
Fans attending the opener and the other three games in the series will see a number of top prospects on the field. Like the Drillers, with Ian Stewart (1) and Troy Tulowitzki (2), the Wranglers roster includes the top two prospects in the Kansas City Royals minor league system.
Third baseman Alex Gordon, out of the University of Nebraska, will be making his minor league debut tonight. Outfielder Billy Butler, who played in 29 games for Wichita last season, is rated the number 2 prospect for the Royals.
The pitching match-up for the opener will feature right-hander Enmaneul Ulloa for the Drillers against right-hander Seung Jun Song.
Fans can obtain free tickets for tonight's game as well as for Friday night's Opening Night II from any sponsor of Drillers Baseball. Sponsors include QuikTrip, Arby's and Mazzio's.
