Drillers Lose Series Finale to Wichita

The Drillers won the first four games of the homestand before dropping the final two.

Sunday's finale was a struggle for the Drillers from the very start. Tulsa pitchers issued seven walks, hit two batters and delivered two wild pitches in just the first three innings of the contest.

The tone was set early as Wichita leadoff batter Jose Miranda hit the third pitch of the game into the Busch Scoreboard Bar beyond the left field fence.

After the home run, Tulsa starting pitcher Gerardo Carrillo hit a pair of batters and walked another before allowing a run-scoring single that put the Wind Surge in front 2-0.

Carrillo's struggles continued into the top of the second. After retiring the first two batters, he issued a pair of walks before Wichita's Leobaldo Cabrera singled home a run.

A two-run single from Roy Morales and another walk ended Carrillo's day. Cyrillo Watson relieved and uncorked a wild pitch before walking in another run that put Wichita in front 6-0.

Ryan Noda accounted for the Drillers only run of the game when he led off the bottom of the second with his team-leading ninth homer.

Devin Mann and Jacob Amaya would single later in the second inning, and they would be Tulsa's last base runners for a while. Wichita starting pitcher Cole Winder took over from there, retiring the next 14 batters in order.

The bullpen continued the streak following Winder's departure after six innings, running the total to 21 straight batters before Donavon Casey reached after getting hit with a pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

*PROPELLER SERIES UPDATE: All games this season between Tulsa and Wichita are being billed as the Propeller Series with the team gaining the most victories receiving the Propeller Trophy from Coors Light. After 12 of 30 meetings, Tulsa now holds a 7-5 lead in the series.

*With the loss, the Drillers home record this season fell to 9-9. They have a 12-5 record away from ONEOK Field.

*Jeren Kendall finished the day 0-4, ending his ten-game hitting streak.

*In three starts against the Drillers this season, Winder has now pitched 15 total innings with 20 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA.

*Attendance at ONEOK Field for the six games in the Propeller Series totaled 34,798, an average of 5,800 per game.

*Tulsa was limited to just seven combined hits in the final two games of the series.

UP NEXT

The Drillers will open a six-game series on Tuesday in North Little Rock, Arkansas against the Travelers.
