Tulsa, OK - The Tulsa Drillers ended a long scoreless streak in Wednesday's meeting with the Amarillo Sod Dogs, but it was still not enough to produce a victory. The Drillers ended a 21-inning scoreless streak with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it left them one run short in a 2-1 loss to the first-place Sod Dogs.
Amarillo and Tulsa began their three-game series in a first-place tie, but the Drillers now trail the Dogs by two games. Tulsa has generated just one run in the two losses while being limited to nine total hits.

The game opened with seven scoreless innings before the Sod Dogs pushed across both of their runs in the top of the eighth. A leadoff walk set up Matthew Garcia's run-scoring hit, and a bases-loaded single from Enrique Porchas made it 2-0.
The Drillers promptly got one of the runs back in the bottom of the eighth, but it could have been more. With one out, Jaden Brown reached on an infield single and came home when Jamal O'Guinn followed with a triple. O'Guinn was left stranded at third after a strikeout and a diving stop of Aidan Nagle's sharp grounder by Amarillo third baseman Porchas.
Tulsa had another chance to tie the game when Cade Cabbiness led off the ninth with a base hit and advanced to second on Max Hewitt's sacrifice bunt, but he was left stranded there after two groundouts to Porchas to end the game.
Tulsa left runners on base in seven of the nine innings and stranded eight runners in total.
TULSA HITTERS: In addition to his triple, O'Guinn also singled in the first inning and walked in the fourth to finish 2-3.
Brown replaced Alec Sanchez in centerfield in the fourth inning and finished 1-2.
Ben Ramirez, Nagle and Cabbiness were all 1-4.
TULSA PITCHERS: Garrett Crowley started and turned in four shutout innings. The Fordham lefthander allowed only two hits and did not walk a batter while striking out five.
Javier Ramos delivered another solid relief outing, but he was tagged with the loss. Ramos, who is headed to the University of Oklahoma, followed Crowley and pitched 3.1 innings and surrendered one run on two hits. He departed with one out in the seventh with a runner at second base and the game still scoreless. A base hit off Austin Teel brought the runner home with the game's first run.
Newcomer Matt Merrill made a successful debut. The Tulsa native who attends USAO in Chickasha, Oklahoma pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk while striking out two.
UP NEXT: Tulsa and the Sod Dogs will play the third and final game of their series on Thursday night at ONEOK Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available online. The game can also be viewed online with a subscription to TCL-TV.
The starting pitchers are scheduled to be:
Amarillo Sod Dogs - RHP Jonathan Cowles (0-0, 8.30 ERA)
Tulsa - RHP Kale Davis (1-0, 1.35 ERA)
