Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA, ON - The versatile Drew Beckie started in midfield for the third straight match Saturday night helping his team earn a crucial point in their push towards the Fall Season Championship with a 1-1 draw in Tampa Bay. Beckie, who made a timely challenge to help win possession for Ottawa's opening goal proved effective at both ends of the pitch this past weekend against the Rowdies. On Wednesday, the NASL named Beckie to the NASL Team of the Week.

Drew Beckie started the season in midfield for Fury FC against the Carolina RailHawks; a change from his right back and centre back roles from 2014. With injuries and results troubling the club for parts of the Spring Season, Beckie would feature in seven of the club's ten matches. As the midfield returned to health and the club caught fire in the Fall Season, Beckie remained a solid teammate - with a strong work ethic in training - ready for whenever and wherever he would be needed. After dealing with an injury of his own, Beckie earned some opportunities as a sub and has since started the last three matches for Fury FC where they have conceded just two goals. In fact, in the 13 matches Beckie has featured for Ottawa this season, the club is 5W-7D-1L outscoring the opposition 15-7.

In addition to Beckie's proven commitment on the field, he has shown his commitment and compassion to the Ottawa community as well. In June, Beckie launched a program called WINGS - Walking in Grief's Shadow - a program to help children who have lost a parent. At age eleven, Beckie lost his father to cancer and after being inspired by a similar program that helped him through this difficult chapter in his life, he founded the WINGS program to provide youth that have lost a parent (or parents) a forum to work through their grief with someone who has shared a similar loss.
