Atlanta, June 27, 2009 - The Atlanta Dream are joining forces with the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women to increase awareness of heart disease and encourage women to take action to reduce their personal risk. The Dream will host its second annual Go Red night at Philips Arena on June 30 as the Dream battle the Minnesota Lynx in a nationally televised matchup on ESPN2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm ET.
During the Dream's "Go Red" night, players will wear red shooting shirts during the game to demonstrate their support and fans are encouraged to "red out" the arena. Prior to the game, employees of the American Heart Association will take part in the team's ceremonial ball exchange. Fans will also be encouraged to visit the AHA table on the concourse to take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and sign up for the new Go Red BetterU program. Fans can also participate in the 50/50 raffle in support of the American Heart Association for a chance to win a limited edition WNBA Go Red basketball signed by the entire Dream team.
One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease and heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women in the United States. Under the partnership, WNBA teams and players are encouraging fans to take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and sign up for Go Red BetterU, a new, free online program that will guide them through a total health makeover by highlighting small, simple choices they can take to reduce their risk of disease.
