Dream Forward Angel McCoughtry Named WNBA All-Star Starter

ATLANTA - Atlanta Dream forward Angel McCoughtry has been named a starter for the Eastern Conference in the 2011 WNBA All-Star game. Dream Head Coach Marynell Meadors will coach the Eastern Conference squad.
The 2011 WNBA All-Star Game will be nationally broadcast on ABC, Saturday, July 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET from San Antonio.
The starting lineups were determined by fan voting. McCoughtry finished second among forwards in the Eastern Conference with 14,132 votes. Last year, she competed for USA Basketball during the "2010 WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun" game. McCoughtry, a 6-1 forward, is averaging 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game this season. The 2009 WNBA Rookie of the Year, McCoughtry is in her third season in the WNBA. She was selected by the Dream with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft.
Joining McCoughtry in the Eastern Conference lineup are Indiana Fever forward and leading vote getter Tamika Catchings (20,226), New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter (20,226), Indiana guard Katie Douglas (18,598) and Connecticut Sun center Tina Charles (17,205)
The Western Conference starters are Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird (25,077), Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore (21,379), Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi (22,406), Los Angeles Sparks center Candace Parker (19,376) and Storm forward Swin Cash (14,907).
By virtue of winning their respective conference titles last season, Seattle's Brian Agler will coach the Western Conference, and the Eastern Conference will be led by Atlanta's Marynell Meadors. Meadors coaches at the WNBA All-Star game for the first time in her career. The 2009 WNBA Coach of the Year, Meadors has led the Dream to back-to-back playoff appearances in three seasons, including the 2010 Eastern Conference Championship.
WNBA head coaches will select the reserves, to be announced on July 19 during the nationally televised game between the Storm and Chicago Sky on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET. Replacement players for injured players will be named by the WNBA President.
