COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 29, 2006) - Head Coach Troy Mann has announced that center Lucas Drake has accepted an invitation to training camp for the 2006-07 season.
The 26-year-old Holt, Michigan native played 73 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League last season. He scored 35 goals and 33 assists for 68 points and 67 penalty minutes. During the playoffs, he skated in 13 games, scoring 10 goals and two assists and 23 penalty minutes. Drake won the Colonial Cup with the Wings this past season.
"Lucas is a very skilled forward with great speed who will be counted on in all situations. Lucas is coming off a great year offensively," said Coach Mann. "I am confident he can duplicate those numbers with us this year. Furthermore he is coming from a winning program in Kalamazoo as they won the UHL championship last season. I am certain his winning attitude will have a positive influence in our locker room."
Drake, 5'10", 185 lbs., played collegiate hockey with Western Michigan University from 2000-2004, along with teammate Mike Jarmuth. He began his professional career in 2004-05 with the Mississippi Sea Wolves playing in 63 games, netting eight goals and adding 19 assists for 27 points.
