Dayton Dragons News Release
Justin Davis drove in three runs and Edward Valdez (W, 3-0) overcame a shaky start as the Dayton Dragons (13-15) beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (13-12) 8-1 at Fifth Third Field in front of 8,416 fans Friday night. The win for the Dragons snaps Wisconsin's eight game winning streak and is the first Dragons win over the Timber Rattlers at Fifth Third Field since May 12, 2001.
Dayton jumped put to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning off "T-Rats" starter Beau Hintz (L, 0-3) on the first of Davis' three RBI on the night. JD's single drove home Brad Correll, who doubled with two out, to give the Dragons the early lead.
Wisconsin answered back in the top of the third off Valdez, on an RBI double from T.J. Bohn. The two-bagger scored Corey Harrington who tripled to lead off the inning and the scored was tied at 1-1.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Dragons tagged Hintz for three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Correll's second double of the night scored Ryan Hanigan, who singled and advanced to second on Travis Wong's base hit. Wong later came home on a wild pitch courtesy of Rattler reliever Rick Dorman and Davis followed with another RBI single scoring Correll.
The Dragons however weren't done scoring runs. In the seventh Dayton plated three more on another Dorman wild pitch that scored Domonique Lewis, who led the inning off with a double, and a Mark Schramek RBI double that knocked home Luis Bolivar, who walked. Davis finished off a 3-4 night with his third RBI single of the evening that scored Schramek and the Dragons led 8-1.
Alexander Farfan finished the game for the Dragons with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief work in a non-save situation.
