
Downtown arena, economic development plans to be discussed at Entrepreneurial Thursdays event

PITTSBURGH, November 8, 2006 - Pittsburgh Xplosion chief executive officer Richard Hersperger will be among the featured speakers at a panel discussion regarding pending slots licensing, construction of a new downtown multi-purpose arena and relative economic development plans. A part of the "Entrepreneurial Thursdays" series, the event will be held on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM at Dowe's on Ninth Jazz Club in downtown Pittsburgh. This event was previously scheduled to be held on October 12. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is slated to hold its hearings relative to Pittsburgh's gaming candidates on November 20-21.
The panel will also feature Rev. James Simms who serves as a community representative for the Pittsburgh First coalition. Pittsburgh First is an economic development project which believes that the locally awarded state-gaming license should be used to benefit the entire community by serving as the engine to spur economic development projects. Pittsburgh First coalition members also include the Isle of Capri Casinos, Nationwide Realty Investors and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A secondary panel themed "Entrepreneurial vets, government planning and uptown development" will feature Richard G. Portis, Coordinator of the Veterans Business Outreach Center in Robert Morris University's Massey Center for Business Innovation and Development; Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) James A. Blanco, Assistant to the Director - Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization; Bob Corcoran, President - Corcoran Aerial Photography and Don Priestley, President and CEO NPO InfoTech Services Inc.
The Pittsburgh Xplosion open its inaugural season in the Continental Basketball Association on Friday, December 1 at Albany. The team's first home game will be played at Mellon Arena on Wednesday, December 6 versus Indiana. Season ticket packages start at $150.
