Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Logan Dowhaniuk only played 50 total games with the Moose Jaw Warriors, but the 20-year-old defenceman made a big impact on the Squadron.

"He brought a whole lot to our group," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

Dowhaniuk joined the Warriors in December after fellow overage defenceman Cole Jordan suffered a season-ending injury.

The Sherwood Park, AB product was able to make an immediate impact over the second half of the season and into the playoffs.

"I hope I made an impact," Dowhaniuk said. "I hope I taught the young guys and helped some of the older guys too along the way, but I just hope my presence was helpful for everyone."

Coming over from the Edmonton Oil Kings, Dowhaniuk brought a championship pedigree after capturing the Ed Chynoweth Cup last season.

O'Leary said the way Dowhaniuk handled the ups and downs of the season and games was key for the Warriors to learn from.

"He's a calm, cool and collected guy that when the times are toughest, he plays his best and we saw that in the playoffs," he said. "There was a lot of nights where he was certainly one of our best defencemen and just great in the room."

After joining the team for his first game on Dec. 9, Dowhaniuk quickly settled into his role with the Warriors. He brought a physical presence to the team's defensive group and lead by example for the team.

"It's a rare thing in junior hockey right now, he plays that style that it's not a whole lot of fun to play against," O'Leary said. "We had an idea of what we were getting in Logan and he certainly passed all those expectations."

Dowhaniuk said he enjoyed finishing his Western Hockey League career in Moose Jaw.

"It's a totally different atmosphere here," he said. "It's a little more laid back, which was nice for my last year and I just really appreciate everyone here for sure."

Dowhaniuk played in 248 regular season games, 208 of them with the Oil Kings, posting 22 goals and 101 points.

He added three goals and 11 points in 19 playoff games last season, helping the Oil Kings to the WHL Championship.

Dowhaniuk said that was easily the highlight of his time in the WHL.

"That was one of the greatest experiences in my life, I'll remember that forever and that group of guys, it was amazing," he said.

In 10 playoff games with the Warriors, Dowhaniuk added a goal and five points.

He said the Warriors didn't get the end result that they had hoped for, but put together a great run.

"We were on a roll, we were firing on all cylinders," he said. "Heading into the playoffs, we were dialled in and it showed in the first round against Lethbridge and then against Winnipeg, obviously not the restful we wanted, but we put up a good effort for sure."

With his WHL career in the books, Dowhaniuk said he's now looking for an opportunity to continue playing at the next level.

"I'm hoping to go pro, but we'll see what happens," he said.
