Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons are participating in The United Way of Midland County Sharing Tree program this holiday season. The initiative helps the community fill the local holiday wishes of those in need.

"We're happy to be one of the participating partners with The United Way this holiday seasons with housing one of their Sharing Trees," Loons Vice President and General Manager Scott Litle said. "We continually strive to provide Midland and the surrounding communities family fun and entertainment; this is one more way we feel we can do our part and give back."

There are Sharing Tree tags on the tree inside the lobby of the Loons' front office at Dow Diamond. Other places throughout the community are also participating, including K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Northwood University, Wildfire Credit Union, and many area churches, non-profits and local corporations. Computers To Go in the Midland Mall will also host a tree and will serve as the gift drop-off location in the mall.

"Sharing Tree is another shining example of our generous community," Executive Director of United Way of Midland County Ann Fillmore said. "We are grateful to the hundreds of people who make it happen. From the local youth groups who lovingly tie ribbons around each tag, to the families who find just the right tag to fill, Sharing Tree has become a symbol of caring for neighbors during the holidays."

Transportation remains one of the greatest unmet needs in the community. The Sharing Tree program offers a way to help. Requests for gas-only cards and Dial A Ride and County Connection tickets will help provide the resources for many hard working families throughout the year. Tickets can be purchased at County Connection, Dial-A-Ride and at Computers To Go in the Midland Mall.

Fans are encouraged to support a family in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Stop by Dow Diamond and select a tag from the Sharing Tree by the front desk. Be sure to wrap the gift so that it can be opened during gift-check in and securely tape the tag to the gift. Return it to Dow Diamond by 5 p.m. on Friday, December 4th, or any other Sharing Tree location by December 6th.

The Loons will also be part of the distribution team on December 7th, sorting 8,000 gifts for 55 agencies.

United Way will continue to accept gifts at their downtown office, 220 W. Main Street, through December 21st. For more information, call United Way of Midland County at (989) 631-3670 or visit www.unitedwaymidland.org.

The Great Lakes Loons are a ninth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For tickets and more information about the Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
