Dorados to Appear Sterling

HIDALGO, TX: January 25, 2005 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are pleased to announce they have been assigned wide receiver / defensive back Sterling Finney by the af2 for the 2005 season.

“Sterling had a great college career and now we will see what he can do at the professional level,” said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. “I saw him at a workout and he showed that he has the quickness to be a playmaker and I think he can help our club.”

Finney is a native of St. Louis, Missouri who is turning pro after completing his college career at NAIA Culver-Stockton College (Culver, MO), where he competed for three seasons (2001-2003). He was a First Team All-Heart of America Athletic Conference member and an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2002 as a junior with a school single season record 88 receptions for 1,076 yards and 6 touchdowns. The 23 year-old closed out his tenure at CSC with a school record 173 receptions.

Prior to enrolling at CSC, the 5’10” 200-pound Finney was enrolled at Missouri Western State College (St. Joseph, MO), where he played his freshman season (2000) and had 32 catches for 380 yards and six touchdowns. His college career included 205 receptions for 2,488 yards and 18 touchdowns. Sterling prepped at Hazelwood Central (Florissant, MO), where he was the Hawks quarterback.

The assignment of Finney gives the Dorados ten members announced to the 2005 roster, joining Brian Baker (QB), John Bradley (OL/DL), Will Goodloe (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), Joseph Lemberg (OS), Moses Lewis (TBD), Travis McAlpine (WR/DB), David Morrill (FB/LB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL).

In other Dorados news, former Dorados Preston Hartfield (New Orleans) and Chris McIver (New York) were released from their Arena Football League training camps. Eddie Moten made it through training camp and is on the roster for the Philadelphia Soul, who open the regular season on Sunday at Austin. The game will be televised at 11 AM on KVEO Ch. 23 (Ch. 8 - Time Warner Cable). Also, the Lacks Dorados Dance Team will be conducting tryouts, which are open to the media, Thursday night at 8PM at KellyÂ’s Center Stage in McAllen.
