
Fire Assigned Five More Players

Louisville Fire head coach Tommy Johnson announced today the Fire has been assigned five more players for the 2005 season by the arenafootball2 league. The players include two veterans, wide receiver/defensive back Tony Stallings and wide receiver/linebacker Dennis Fryzel. The other three players are rookies to the af2, defensive specialist Jermaine Hampton, WR/DB Terry Meng and WR/DB Donta Greene.
Stallings, 5'11 200 Louisville, will be returning to the Fire for his third season. In nine games with the Fire last season Stallings made an impact on offense, defense and special teams. On the offensive side of the ball Stallings tallied 20 touchdowns (14 rushing and five receiving). Stallings is also the Fire's all-time rushing touchdown leader with 22 career rushing touchdowns. He rushed 37 times for 99 yards and caught 33 passes for 387 yards in 2004. Defensively Stallings totaled 28 tackles, one interception and nine pass break-ups. As a kick returner Stallings averaged 21 yards per return for a total of 630 yards and one touchdown.
"I love playing for the city (Louisville) that first loved me," said Stallings. "Without the Fire I would be out of football altogether."
Fryzel, 5'11 195 Valdosta State, will also be playing his third season for the Fire. Fryzel's numbers improved in 2004 after a solid 2003 campaign. On the offensive side Fryzel grabbed 47 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns and saw his first action rushing the ball with 13 rushes for 55 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively Fryzel recorded 25 tackles, one interception, five pass deflections and five fumble recoveries.
Hampton, 6'2 215 Northern Illinois, spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and saw action in 10 games during the 2001 season recording seven tackles as a defensive back. While at Northern Illinois Hampton totaled 302 tackles in 33 appearances and recorded 17 double figure tackle games.
Greene, 5'7 175 Toledo, ended his career at Toledo with 188 receptions which is good for second all-time in Rockets history. Greene is also fourth in the Toledo record books with 1,979 career receiving yards. He finished his career with appearances in 46 games and averaged 10.6 yards a catch. He is also second in Toledo history recording at least one reception in 32 straight games.
Meng, 5'8 165 Presbyterian, will be joining the Fire for his rookie campaign in af2. In his senior season at Presbyterian he pulled in 59 receptions for 579 yards. On special teams Meng returned 35 punts for 394 yards and one touchdown while averaging 11.3 yards per punt return. He earned third team All-South Region honors as a senior.
