Dorados Have New Field Name

THE E-WATCH

Former Dorados defensive specialist Eddie Moten is the first and only player to advance his playing career from the Dorados to the higher level and is currently the youngest member of the Arena Football League ‘s (AFL) Philadelphia Soul. Moten, who was a rookie last season for the Dorados out of Texas A&M-Kingsville, co-led the af2 last season in interceptions with 10 and led the af2 in interception return yards with 124 yards. Each week we will keep tabs on his progress in AFL action:

Sun Feb. 13th vs. Nashville Kats

The Philadelphia Soul improved their record to 2-1 as they defeated the Nashville Kats 59-48 in their home opener in front of 16,632 fans. Moten ranked third on the Soul in tackles with 4.5 tackles (4-solo,1-assisted) and a pass break-up. The totals give Moten 9.5 tackles (8-solo, 3-assisted) on the year (ranks fourth on the squad) and his team leading 5 pass break-ups (passes defended) ranks tied for second in the AFL.

Next for Moten: The Soul will head back on the road and will take on the 2-1 New Orleans VooDoo in an 11-AM scheduled kickoff on NBC. (NBC determines which games are televised in each of their markets and KVEO Channel 23 is tentatively scheduled to air the contest).

CHASE FIELD

Duke University has Coach K Court at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Texas has Joe Jamail Field at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium, the Tulsa Talons af2 squad plays on Pepsi Field inside the Tulsa Convention Center and now the Rio Grande Valley Dorados will play on Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena.

The sponsorship by JP Morgan Chase will brand their name and logo on the turf and naming rights to the Dorados home field for the 2005 season. All press releases, broadcast mentions and marketing efforts will mention the Dorado's home field as Chase Field inside Dodge Arena. JPMorgan Chase has assets of approximately $1.1 trillion and operations in more than 50 countries. The firm is a leader in investment banking, financial services for consumers and businesses, financial transaction processing, asset and wealth management and private equity. The headquarters for JPMorgan Chase is located in New York.

A REVIEW OF THIS PAST WEEK'S ANNOUNCED ASSIGNMENTS

Jimmy Landrom (WR/DB) 6'0 185 Pontiac, MI St. Francis University He joins the Dorados after completing a four-season college career in 2003 at NCAA Div. I-AA St. Francis University (Loretto, PA), leaving the Red Flash program holding the program's career record for pass breakups (36) and punt return yards (377), and ranks second in punt returns (56), punt return average (6.7), kickoff returns (62) and third all-time in career kickoff return yards (1,143). He also registered 105 tackles and 10 interceptions over his 39-game college career. Originally enrolled to Bowling Green and was a teammate of quarterback Josh Harris, but had a change of heart once arriving and transferred to St. Francis prior to the 2000 season. He made quite the impression in his first game, as he ran back four punts for a school-record 86 yards against La Salle. Landrom returned 20 punts in 2000 for 172 yards, ranking him amongst the national leaders through most of the season. Prior to college, Landrom was a two-way star at Pontiac Northern High School.

Antoine Murphy (OL/DL) 6'4 325 Indianapolis, Indiana Baylor Murphy wrapped up his college career in 2002 at Baylor University, where he was a two-year letter winner. The Bears right guard played in nine games during the 2001 season, starting in seven of them. As a senior in 2002, Murphy appeared in ten games and was a starter in nine of them. He graduated in December 2003 and was majoring in Education. Initially began his college career at Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois. In two seasons with Harper, Murphy was twice named first team all-conference. He was also selected as an All-American in 2000 and chosen as the best offensive lineman in the conference. JC Gridwire named him an All-Scholastic All-American. Murphy had chosen to go the juco route after missing several games due to injury as a senior in high school at Ben Davis High School, where he lettered three seasons.

Kenny McClain (OL, DL) 6'5 315 Pennsauken, New Jersey Delaware St. Univ.

McClain joined the Dorados last season on 6/17/04 and appeared in five games. The 24 year-old contributed 4 tackles (3 solo) in the five games and also tallied one tackle for a loss. His single best game with the Dorados came on 7/10/04 against Oklahoma City, which he registered 2 tackles. He turned pro with the Dorados after closing out a four year college tenure at NCAA Div. 1-AA Delaware State University. He played with the Hornets program from 1999 - 2002, appearing in 25 games. McClain began his college career on the defensive side of the ball, lining up as linebacker, but later moved to the offensive side of the ball and played on the line and at tight end. A journalism major, McClain obtained Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Academic honors in 2001/02. McClain prepped at Pennsauken High School and was part of three consecutive conference title squads (1996 - 1998).
