Hidalgo, Texas - With their third season of af2 action a little more than a month and a half away, the training camp roster for the Rio Grande Valley Dorados continues to swell. The team now has 32 players assigned by the af2.
Recent additions to the lineup include Ronshay Jenkins, who played for the Dorados in their inaugural season of 2004, as well as Texas A&M-Kingsville alums Roy Stroud and Tracey James.
James is a 6-2, 200-pound DS who played in 37 games at Texas A&M Kingsville, making a total of 212 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, six fumble recoveries and 12 passes broken up. As a senior in 2004, he played in all 11 games, making a total of 52 tackles, five for a loss, one interception and one fumble recovery and was named first team All-LSC South Division. The Galveston, Texas native also had at least two tackles in all 11 games.
Stroud, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman from Bossier, La., is a two-time All-Lone Star Conference South Division honoree. He played in eight games as a senior in 2004 for the Javelinas, earning first team All-LSC South Division honors. He was also was named first team All-Southwest Region at offensive lineman by D2Football.com and Daktronics.
Jenkins returns to the Dorados for his second season in the Rio Grande Valley. He played for the team in 2004 and was named the US Army Ironman of the Game on 7/3/04 vs. Wichita and earned the award a second consecutive week on 7/10/04 vs. OKC. He had a career high 56-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on 7/17/04 at Tulsa. The 5-foot-7, 160-pound WR/DB out of New Mexico State holds several Dorados franchise records, including longest interception return (43 yards) and highest gain per reception in a game (28.3).
The Dorados kick off the 2006 af2 season on Friday, March 31 at Central Valley, and begin the home portion of the 16-game season Saturday, April 8 vs. Tulsa at Dodge Arena.
