Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: February 21, 2005 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are excited to welcome another new member assigned to the squad by the af2, as they add wide receiver/defensive back Dwight Counter to the 2005 roster.

“Dwight is another player coming in with high expectations,” said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. “He is coming off of a great college career and hopefully he is big play guy for us once he learns the arena game and the angles.”

Counter is a native of Dallas, Texas and steps into the pro ranks after a tremendous college career at the University of New Mexico from 1999 - 2003. A team captain for the Lobos, Counter appeared in 50 games with the Lobos (starting in 34) over his career and racked up 122 career receptions for 2,101 yards (17.2 avg) and 14 touchdown receptions. The three time all-Mountain West Conference recipient leaves the Lobos ranking sixth on their all-time receptions list, fourth in career yardage and tied for fourth in TDs. Also leaves UNM as the only Lobo with two receptions of 80 or more yard, and also had six career 100-yard receiving games. The 6’2” 200 pound Counter participated in the 2004 Las Vegas All-American Classic to close out his college career, which is “America’s Largest College All-Star Game” with over 110 college athletes competing (formerly known as the Paradise Bowl). Prior to New Mexico, the 23 year-old was a 1999 graduate of Lancaster High School. Counter was a First Team All-District receiver and team MVP, catching 46 passes for 746 yards and 10 touchdowns his senior year.

The assignment of Counter to the Dorados roster gives them 21 members announced to the 2005 squad, joining Brian Baker (QB), Darvell Bivens (WR/DB), John Bradley (OL/DL), J.R. Davies (QB), Sterling Finney (WR/DB), Marquis Floyd (WR/DB), Wil Goff (OL/DL), Will Goodloe (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), Marquis Landrom (WR/DB), Joseph Lemberg (OS), Moses Lewis (TBD), Travis McAlpine (WR/DB), Kenny McClain (OL/DL), Ben McCombs (DE, FB/LB), David Morrill (FB/LB), Antoine Murphy (OL/DL), Pierre Thomas (WR/DB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL). Media members seeking an interview with Counter or Coach Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-227-4940.

The Dorados kick-off their 2005 campaign April 9th at the Dodge Arena, as they host the Louisville Fire. Season ticket packages and advertising opportunities are available by contacting the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825.
