Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs News Release
The Diamond Dogs knocked off the New Jersey Jackals tonight 2-1 at Heritage Park. The Dogs scored their runs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Vic Davila singled to right field. The next batter, Malvin Matos then singled to centerfield.
Because Matos is nursing a leg injury, pitcher Bryan Morse came in to pinch run. The next batter, Carlos Sepulveda hit a hard line drive over the centerfielder's head. As Morse was mid-way around third he slipped on the wet grass and was thrown out at the plate. Jason Startari then walked, and stole second, putting runners on second and third.
Travis Rush, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, hit a ball deep in the hole at short. The infield hit scored Sepulveda from third with the winning run.
It's the first time all year the Dogs have won when trailing after eight innings. They were 0-28.
