Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs won their sixth game in seven tries on Tuesday night when they defeated the Peninsula Pilots 4-2 at "The Swamp."
Jeffrey Stoner (Francis Marion) further cemented himself as one of the elite pitchers in the Coastal Plain League with another stellar performance on the mound. He pitched seven strong innings and added seven more strikeouts to his season total en route to his second win of the year.
The Dogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when a Mike Tauchman (Bradley) infield single followed a Connor Obrochta (Tampa) double, putting runners at first and third. Reed Harper (Austin Peay) walked to load the bases, and Sal Giardina (Lynn) walked as well to give the Dogs a 1-0 lead. Blake Beemer (Ball State) followed Giardina and drove in two more runs with a frozen rope double to into the gap between left and center field.
Fayetteville plated one more run in the second inning, when Harper drove in Obrochta with a single up the middle.
Peninsula was able to creep back into the game with a run in the seventh and eighth inning, respectively, but the Dogs' pitching staff was more than prepared to lock up the team's eighth win of the year.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Thursday, June 14th, as the All American Weekend of Fun gets kicked off with 80's Night presented by Healy Wholesale. Relive a decade of great music and good times by dressing in 80's garb, with the first 500 fans, 21 and older, receiving a retro trucker hat courtesy of Healy Wholesale and Coors. It's also Home-Based Business Night, where fans can meet with friends and neighbors to find ways to make life easier and fancier.
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums "" including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander "" make their Major League debut thus far.
