Dogs Lose Series Finale 3-2
August 1, 2002 - Northern League (NL)
Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs News Release
Colonie, New York- The Diamond Dogs lost the final game of the series versus Elmira tonight by a final score of 3-2 at Heritage Park. The Diamond Dogs trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, but made things interesting when Carlos Sepulveda hit a two-run double to pull the Dogs to within a run. Albany-Colonie's comeback attempt fell short, however, as Terrell Merriman lined out to center to end the game.
Elmira starting pitcher Jeff Andra was the story tonight as he worked eight shutout innings to pick up his seventh win of the year. Andra allowed only four hits, all singles, and struck out seven in the game. Offensively, the Pioneers were led by Cesar King who had 2 RBI's in the victory.
The Diamond Dogs did not have a runner get past first base until the ninth inning. Interestingly enough, Elmira closer Julio Perez allowed his first two runs of the year, although they were both unearned. The Diamond Dogs head to Allentown tomorrow to kick off a three game series against the Ambassadors down at Bicentennial Park.
