Of all the tough losses this season, this game might have held the least positives for the Chicago Dogs, as they dropped the first of six games against Gary by a final of 25-2.
From a pitching perspective, there were almost no positive takeaways. The only pitcher who logged a scoreless outing was Regi Grace Jr., who collected two outs in the third inning. Seven other pitchers combined for twenty-five earned runs in seven and a third innings of work, including twenty-five hits and eleven walks. Aaron Altherr made his Dogs pitching debut as well. The former major leaguer has pitched in a game at the MLB level, and made his first appearance of the year in the seventh inning. He walked one, gave up one run on one hit, and earned two outs.
Chicago had very little offensive support, scoring just two runs on seven hits. The runs came in the eighth and ninth innings, at a point when the game was already out of reach. Jaxx Groshans homered in the eighth inning to get Chicago on the board, and Chance Sisco singled home Derek Maiben in the ninth to make it two. Despite just the two runs, seven of the nine Chicago starters offensively made it on base via a walk or hit at some point in the game.
