
Cougars Split Doubleheader with DockHounds

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars (46-37) split Friday's doubleheader with the Lake Country DockHounds (48-37), dropping a historic Game 1 before bouncing back with a dominant pitching performance in Game 2.
Game 1 - DockHounds 23, Cougars 10
After an 80-minute rain delay, Lake Country jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a Joshua Mears three-run homer. The Cougars answered with three runs in the second, highlighted by RBI hits from Charles Mack and Armond Upshaw, to tie the game.
The DockHounds then erupted for 15 runs in the third inning, sending 20 batters to the plate while collecting eight hits, eight walks and a hit-by-pitch. It was the most runs scored in a single half-inning in American Association history, giving Lake Country an 18-3 lead.
Upshaw added his second homer of the game in the fourth, while Josh Allen and Cooper Weiss helped spark a four-run sixth, including Weiss' first home run in a Cougars uniform. Lake Country held on for the 23-10 win.
Sebastian Rodriguez (4-0) earned the win, while Tommy Kane (0-2) took the loss.
Game 2 - Cougars 5, DockHounds 2
Kane County responded behind a masterful start from Jake Gilbert, who allowed just three hits while striking out nine over five scoreless innings.
Todd Lott gave the Cougars an early lead with a two-run homer in the first, his eighth of the season. Josh Allen added a two-run single in the second, and Sam Dexter's RBI double in the third made it 5-0. All five Cougar runs came with two outs.
Lake Country cut the lead to 5-2 in the sixth on Anthony Garcia's two-run homer, but Art Warren shut the door in the seventh for his fourth save.
Jake Gilbert (2-1) earned the win, Bryce Ehr (0-1) took the loss and Art Warren (4) recorded the save.
The Cougars will continue their series with the DockHounds tomorrow, August 22nd at 6:30 PM at Northwestern Medicine Field. It will be Tye-Dye Night, featuring a tye-die cooler bag giveaway sponsored by Wintrust. There will be a pregame concert by Sammy and the Knights, and a MEGA fireworks show postgame.
