Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs News Release
Colonie - The Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs turned three Brockton Rox errors into seven unearned runs and defeated the Rox, 10-7 tonight. Steve Truitt was the hitting star of the night, thanks to his second inning grand slam.
The Dogs got their first unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. Dogs' second baseman Julio Zorrilla led off by reaching and advancing to second on an error by Rox second baseman Carlos Rosario. After Miguel Vilorio's bunt single, Terrell Merriman hit a fly ball behind second base. Though it fell to the ground, Rox centerfielder Chris Cosbey threw to second base and nailed Vilorio on the fielder's choice. Zorrilla scored from third.
The Dogs did most of their damage, however, in the bottom of the second. Malvin Matos led off the inning with his second home run of the season. With one out, catcher Gerald Butt singled. Jason Startari flied to center and the comedy of errors began. Zorrilla, the next batter, reached on an error by the first baseman, Travis Hall. Vilorio then reached on Carlos Rosario's second error of the night. With the bases loaded, Merriman singled, driving in two runs. After a walk to Vic Davila, Truitt hit his first grand slam of the season. The Dogs then hung on for their tenth victory of the second half.
Albany-Colonie will look for the sweep when the two teams face off tomorrow in the final game of the series. Game time at Heritage Park is 2:05 p.m.
