Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Jupiter, FL) - Blake DeWitt hit his fifth home run since the All Star Break and the Vero Beach Dodgers knocked off Jupiter 6-1 Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Kyle Wilson earned his first win as a starter and Jumbo Diaz picked up his first save since 2004. The Dodgers will attempt to sweep the Hammerheads Tuesday night at 6:35 PM. DeWitt has been on a tear since the league's 3-day break for the FSL All Star Game. In the eight games since the intermission, DeWitt is batting .355 with five of his nine home runs and nine runs scored. Monday night he led off the third inning with a towering shot to right field to open up a 3-0 lead. The first two runs scored in the second off Jupiter starter Gaby Hernandez (8-4), who suffered his first loss in six starts. Cory Dunlap was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Anthony Raglani singled. Carlos Santana hit his first of two doubles to score Dunlap. A ground out from David Nicholson brought in Raglani. Jupiter's only run scored in the third against Wilson, who made only his third career start. Steven Gendron singled and Jai Miller walked to start the third. After a sacrifice, Gendron scored on a ground out. Wilson then retired the final 12 batters he faced and turned in a season-high six innings. He struck out six while allowing only two hits and one walk. Reliever Zach Hammes retired Jupiter in order in the seventh, but allowed a base hit to J.T. Restko in the 8th to stop a string of 15 Hammerheads retired in a row. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases with no outs. Jose "Jumbo" Diaz entered the game and struck out the next three batters. He also retired all three batters in the ninth for the save. The Dodgers offense gave Wilson, Hammes and Diaz breathing room. Raglani tripled in the fifth and scored on Santana's sacrifice fly. Xavier Paul led off the ninth with a triple. He stayed there on DeWitt's infield single, but Jamie Hoffmann's pinch hit to left brought in Paul. DeWitt eventually scored on an error for the 6-1 final. Paul finished 3-5 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Over that stretch he has eight multi-hit games and is batting .442. He entered the game 8th in the FSL in batting average at .302.
