Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers could not hang onto a two-run lead in the latter innings Monday night at Holman Stadium, as the visiting Dunedin Blue Jays came from behind to win 5-3. After spotting the Jays a one run lead, RHP Eric Hull cruised through his final four innings of work, lasting seven frames, permitting just one run. Hull left the game with a 3-1 lead after the Dodgers put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh.

LF Rod Van Buizen walked to lead off the inning and after a 3B Brian Sprout single, scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. 2B Russell Mitchell delivered the Dodgers' final run with a single, plating Sprout, and putting Vero Beach ahead 3-1. RHP Brian Steffek came on to pitch the eighth inning and after retiring the first two hitters, saw a SS Joel Guzman error keep the inning alive. One single later, DH Ron Davenport put the Blue Jays ahead for good with a homer over the left field wall. RHP Edward Buzachero earned his fifth save of the season, retiring the Dodgers in order over the final two frames. RHP Andy Torres was credited with the victory, while Steffek takes the loss.

The Dodgers and Blue Jays wrap up the four-game set Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at Holman Stadium. RHP Chad Billingsley takes to the mound for the Dodgers, while the Blue Jays counter with LHP Kurt Isenberg.
