Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Tampa, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers scored all three of their runs in the third inning and held on for a 3-2 win over the Tampa Yankees at Legends Field Thursday night. Blake Johnson dealt 7 1/3 innings for the win to even his record at 2-2. The Dodgers return home Friday night at 7:00 PM against the Clearwater Threshers.

The big third inning proved to be enough for the Dodgers. Ryan Carter started it off with a triple - his league-leading 6th of the year. David Nicholson singled him in to make it 1-0. After Nicholson was thrown out stealing, Ryan Russ rapped a base hit to right. Hoffman reached on an infield hit and both advanced on a wild pitch. Blake DeWitt then rolled a base hit between third and short to score both runners.

Meanwhile Johnson was solid all night. He gave up one run in the bottom of the third when Mark Carroll doubled and went to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a ground out. The only other run for the Yanks came on a 2-out solo homer from Rudy Guillen.

Kyle Wilson relieved Johnson in the 8th with a man on and pitched the team out of trouble. He allowed one runner in the 9th but ended the game with a double play ball. Wilson notched his 4th save.
