Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

JUPITER, FL (May 18, 2006) - The Fort Myers Miracle hope to never play a game that starts at 10:35 a.m. again this season. They are now 0-3 in those games and have been outscored 23-1 in front of young, impressionable students during that time as they were beaten 17-0 on Thursday morning at Roger Dean Stadium.

In every aspect of the game it was downright ugly for the Miracle, who fell to 22-18. Their offense managed just three hits, they never had a runner further than second base and had four pitchers with ERA's of over five stifle them all game long. Kyle Geiger collected two hits, a sixth and eighth inning single and Brock Peterson had the other hit a single in the second.

The pitching was no better. It got so bad the Miracle used catcher Korey Feiner to try and close out the eighth inning, but he couldn't do the job. The six pitchers combined for a team and FSL season tying high 13 walks. They walked a hitter in every inning, but the fifth. Miracle starter Jose Mijares actually pitched decently, other than the five walks. He gave up a two run homer to Terry Evans in the first and then put up zero's over the next four innings, but the bullpen couldn't do anything against the Cardinals hitters.

Ryan Callahan tossed 0.2 of an inning and gave up six runs on four hits, including a three run homer to Simon Williams. Chris Schutt was able to get the final out of the sixth, but couldn't get anyone out in the seventh. He gave up four runs in 0.1 innings, including a two run homer to Williams, who finished 2-2 with two homers and five RBI after coming into the game in the fifth inning.

J.P. Martinez was the only one who got away unscathed tossing one shutout inning, but did give up one hit and walked one. The Miracle decided to bring in Feiner, but he couldn't find the strike zone either walking the first three hitters he faced before getting his first out. He went 0.2 innings allowing four runs on one hit and walking three. Tim Lahey got the final out, but not before giving up a run of his own on two hits.

The Miracle now head home for a four game series against the St. Lucie Mets beginning Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Colby Miller (0-0, 0.00) to the hill. It is a full slate of promotions. It is Take a Kid to the Game Night presented by the Lehigh Rotary. The ZOOperstars will be in attendance, inflatable mascots with in between inning skits. It is Faith Night presented by Life Church, with the Miracle honoring local religious groups and finally it is Scout Night I, a tribute to scouts in Southwest Florida. The game can be heard live on Sports Radio 770 ESPN, with the pre game show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
