Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - Adolfo Gonzalez drove in six runs to help the Vero Beach Dodgers to a 10-5 victory over the Sarasota Reds Friday night at Holman Stadium. Gonzalez homered his first two at bats and all but one starter scored for Vero Beach as the team ended a 5-game losing streak. The series continues Saturday at 7:00 PM on Rivalry Night. Gonzalez swatted an opposite field two-run home run that snuck inside the right field foul pole in the first inning to give the Dodgers a lead they would not relinquish. He went one step better in the second inning by blasting a three-run shot to left that cleared the palm trees beyond the fence. He capped his 6-RBI night with a single in the sixth that scored Blake DeWitt. Eight of the 10 Dodger runs scored against Sarasota starter Johnny Cueto within the first two innings. The Gonzalez homer accounted for both first-inning runs but his three-run tally in the second amounted to only half the damage. DeWitt added an RBI single and Drew Locke launched a 2-run home run of his own for a 6-run inning. Jamie Hoffmann contributed an RBI single in the 7th to cap the scoring. Ryan Ketchner (1-1) earned the win with three relief innings. The left-hander made just his third appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery that kept him out all of 2005. He tossed three innings, surrendering two hits and one run with three strikeouts and no walks. Zach Hammes and Kyle Wilson also added scoreless relief appearances to seal the victory.
