Vero Beach used two 4-run innings to shut out the Sarasota Reds 8-0 Wednesday night. Danny Muegge went six innings, striking out seven for the victory. Cory Dunalp went 3-4 with 2 RBI, while four other Dodgers tallied two hits apiece to lead the offense. The series continues Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
The Dodgers took the lead almost immediately against Reds starter D.J. Mattox. Tony Abreu walked on four pitches to start the game. Chin-lung Hu followed with a single and Anthony Raglani bounced a base hit to left to score the first run. Then Matt Kemp, Dunlap and Jamie Hoffman delivered consecutive RBI singles to the give the Dodgers a 4-0 lead.
With two outs in the 4th, Vero put the game away. Abreu tripled off the top of the wall in left-center. Hu singled him home to make it 5-0. Raglani and Kemp followed with back-to-back triples of their own to make it 7-0, and Dunlap singled in Kemp to cap the scoring.
Orlando Rodriguez, Justin Simmons and Beltran Perez each threw scoreless innings over the final third of the game to preserve the Dodgers 8th shutout of the season. Muegge allowed just four hits and one walk to improve his season record to 5-2. It was his second win against the Reds.
