Duluth Huskies News Release
The Duluth Huskies were shutout for the first time in 2018 on Wednesday night, falling to Fond du Lac 3-0 in Game One of the Summer Collegiate World Series.
All the scoring occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning. A wild pitch allowed the first run to score before the Dock Spiders ripped a two-run single with the bases loaded. The Huskies never had multiple runners on base in any inning as the offense was limited to just three hits. Callan Johnson was a bright spot out of the Duluth bullpen, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings in which he didn't allow a hit and struck out six. Spiders starting pitcher Connor Cook was masterful, tossing a complete game on just 97 pitches while issuing no walks and striking out seven.
The Huskies fall to 49-26 while Fond du Lac improves to 42-31 overall. The action now shifts to Duluth for Game Two of the best-of-three series Thursday night beginning at 7:05 pm.
