Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
FOND DU LAC, WI - The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders won their fourth straight game to end the first half, defeating the Madison Mallards 10-4 at Herr-Baker Field on Monday evening.
The Dock Spiders finished the first half of the season with a 19-15 record, second in the Great Lakes West. The Mallards finished the half at 18-17, in third place in the west. The win gave the Dock Spiders the third-best first half record in the Great Lakes Division, behind the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (29-6) and the Kalamazoo Growlers (22-14).
Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois), Parker Noland (Vanderbilt) and Kyte McDonald (Wichita State) all recorded three-hit days. Mitchell fell a home run short of the cycle while McDonald was a triple shy.
The Dock Spiders scored first when Noland tallied an RBI single before McDonald launched a two-run home run for his second of the season. He joins Cole Messina as the only two Dock Spiders to tally multiple home runs at home this year. It marks the first duo to hit multiple home runs at home in a season for the Dock Spiders since Aaron Anderson and Andrew Bullock accomplished the feat in 2019.
The Dock Spiders would take a 4-0 lead after McDonald doubled home Noland in the third. In the fourth, the Mallards would tie the game off a double and a three-run home run to center.
The Dock Spiders would then explode on offense over the next three innings, with six runs on six hits, including a bases-clearing triple from Mitchell to give the Dock Spiders a commanding 9-4 lead.
Alex Vera (2-0, Illinois) earned the win for the Dock Spiders after 2.2 innings in relief. Trent Hodgdon (0-1, West Virginia) took the loss for Madison.
After an off-day tomorrow, the Dock Spiders will travel to Kokomo to take on the Jackrabbits in the first game of a two-game series to start the second half. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m.
