Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
VERO BEACH, Fla. - Randy Dobnak tossed six shutout innings, and the trio of Akil Baddoo, Royce Lewis, and Ryan Jeffers collected three hits apiece, as the Fort Myers Miracle claimed a series opening, 7-3, victory over the St. Lucie Mets on Monday night at Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
A day after pounding out 21-hits in a win over Clearwater, the Miracle offense collected 15-hits. Every starter had at least a hit for the second straight game.
The Miracle scored single runs in the first and second on a Trevor Larnach ground out and an Akil Baddoo single.
Still leading 2-0 in the fifth, Larnach picked up his second RBI of the night with a run scoring double. An inning later, Baddoo hit his first home run since Opening Night to push the lead to 4-0.
St Lucie scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded with one out before Tom Hackimer entered and retired consecutive batters to preserve the one-run lead.
Fort Myers put the game out of reach in the ninth with a three-run inning. Jose Miranda knocked home two with a double, before scoring when second baseman Blake Tiberi threw the ball away.
Dobnak (1-0) allowed three hits and struck out four. The right-hander extended his season opening scoreless innings streak to 11.
The game was played at Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex as part of a celebration of Jackie Robinson Day across baseball.
The series with St. Lucie continues on Tuesday night with Bryan Sammons getting the start for Fort Myers. The southpaw has yet to allow a run in 10.0 innings of work this season.
