Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, March 4, 2009 - Portland LumberJax goalie Matt Disher has been named the National Lacrosse League's Defensive Player of the Week for week nine, the league announced today. Disher stopped 45 of the 55 shots he faced Saturday night in a 12-10 win over the Philadelphia Wings.

"After our initial surge in the first quarter, the three weeks between games kicked in and we lost our legs," said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "For the last three quarters we were hanging on and Dish bailed us out. He's been great all season, but he was extraordinary the last three quarters for us Saturday."

This is the second Defensive Player of the Week Award for Disher. The 10-year veteran earned the award during week five of the season, stopping 46 of the 54 shots he saw in a 9-8 win over the Boston Blazers.

On the season, Disher is second in the league in saves (344) and save percentage (81.1%) and third in goals-against-average (10.01). Disher has made at least 32 saves in every game and 45 or more in every win.

The Hamilton, Ontario native will be making his first All-Star appearance this Saturday as he starts for the West Division. The East and West meet at 6 p.m. PST at the Pepsi Center, in Denver, Colorado. The game can be seen via the NLL Network. Log onto NLL.com to access the broadcast.
