Rochester's Shawn Evans named Player of the Week

March 4, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

Rochester's Shawn Evans has been named Overall and Offensive Player of the Week. Evans was the undisputed star in Rochester's third win of the season, an 18-10 victory against Toronto at Blue Cross Arena on Saturday. He led all scorers with seven goals and seven assists. His 11 loose balls were also tied for the most in the game.

Portland's Matt Disher has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Disher, fresh off Portland's two-week bye, did not show any signs of rust in the team's first game back, making 45 saves and allowing just 10 goals against the Philadelphia Wings at the Rose Garden on Saturday.

Boston's Kyle Ross has been named Transition Player of the Week. Ross finished Boston's 16-10 win over San Jose at TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday with 11 loose balls, which was tied for the most in the game, to go along with one goal and three assists. He also helped hold Stealth forward Colin Doyle (currently third in the league in points) scoreless during even-strength situations.

Minnesota's Kevin Buchanan has been named Rookie of the Week. The Ohio State graduate finished Minnesota's two-game weekend with seven goals, four assists and 13 loose balls. He was especially impressive in the Swarm's 13-10 victory in Toronto on Friday, netting five goals and one assist.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 12 teams.
