Old Orchard Beach News Release

After two innings of no-hit ball by Dirt Dawgs's starter Mike Murphy and Mavericks starter Lucas Olen, it looked like the matchup between Wachusett and Seacoast was going to be a pitcher's duel. This didn't turn out to be the case.

In the top of the 3rd with the bases loaded, Tomas Mark hit a bases clearing double, giving the Mavericks a 3-0 lead. The Dirt Dawgs responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring 5 runs with RBIs from Sharkey, Keddy, St. Clair, and Derosier. This made the score 5-3 Dirt Dawgs.

After allowing a run in the top of the 4th, the Dirt Dawgs again responded, scoring two in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-4 lead on a David Peguero double. The two RBIs gave the Dirt Dawgs 6+ runs. Because of this 100 lucky fans received 6 free wings from Buffalo Wild Wings for the first time this season. The lead didn't last long though. Seacoast scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning making the score 8-7. This time the Dirt Dawgs couldn't respond. In the top of the 7th Seacoast tacked on an insurance run, making the score 9-7.

In the bottom of the 9th, down by 2, the first two Dirt Dawg batters were retired. Then Shane Keddy hit a single, and Davidson Peguero walked. With two runners on, the potential game-winning run Jack St. Clair stepped up to the plate. With the count 2-2, St. Clair fouled off a pitch to stay alive. On the next pitch St. Clair hit a bomb to deep center field, the centerfielder leaped at the fence and the ball fell just over his outstretched glove for the first walk-off homerun in Dirt Dawgs history!

The Dirt Dawgs are now 3-6 and their next home game is on Wednesday night at Doyle Field with a 6:35pm first pitch time against the Torrington Titans.
