Pittsfield Suns News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA (June 12, 2015) - The Pittsfield Suns were primed to repeat their end-of-game heroics at Wahconah Park this evening, but fell short when the game against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs was called in the sixth inning because of inclement weather, with the visiting team ahead 6-0.
Wachusett broke out to an early lead in the first inning after a walk to speedy shortstop Jon Kristoffersen and a double by Justin Silvestro for a 1-0 score.
They would pad to that lead in the third inning by plating three runs. After two back-to-back singles by Max DiTondo and Kurtis White, Suns pitcher Stephen Fortuna walked Sebastian DiMauro to load the bases for Kristoffersen who came through with an RBI-single. Two sacrifices by Silvestro and Justin Brock later and the Suns found themselves in a 4-0 hole.
The Dirt Dawgs added a run in each the fifth and sixth inning, highlighted by a fifth inning leadoff homer off the bat of Kurtis White. Pittsfield would come to bat in the bottom of the sixth before the game was called because of inclement weather.
Thomas Mahoney tossed the entirety of the game for the Dirt Dawgs, giving up only four hits and two walks while striking out six on the way to his second win of the season. Suns' Stephen Fortuna was charged with the loss.
