Saginaw Spirit News Release

Anaheim, CA - The Anaheim Ducks announced Friday afternoon that they have signed Spirit defenseman Rodwin Dionicio to a three-year entry-level contract. Dionicio was drafted by the Ducks in the 5th round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

"I'm so happy to be able to sign my ELC with Anaheim," said Dionicio. "I want to thank the organization here in Saginaw for trusting me in my game and for helping me to develop off the ice as well."

The New Jersey-born and Swiss-raised Dionicio finished his third season of OHL action in 2023-24. His 25 goals, 48 assists, and 73 points were each career-high marks for the defenseman. Dionicio's point total (73) placed him third among OHL blueliners this season, finishing behind only Kitchener's Henry Brzustewicz (92), and his Max Kaminsky Trophy-winning teammate, Zayne Parekh (96).

"We're so proud of Rodwin and are thrilled we can share today with him," said Spirit GM Dave Drinkill. "The body of work he put together this season was that of an NHL-caliber player, and it's great to see that work be rewarded."

The Spirit acquired Dionicio in a trade with the Windsor Spitfires on November 16th. He led the Spirit in postseason scoring in the 2024 OHL Playoffs with 17 points (5G, 12A).

Internationally, Dionicio has represented Switzerland since the 2019-20 season, where he captained the Swiss U16 squad. He has gone to three World Junior Championships, finishing second in team scoring with two goals and two assists in five games in 2024. In total, Dionicio has five points (3G, 2A) in 15 games of World Junior Experience.

Dionicio has skated in 167 OHL games to date, tallying 154 points (46G, 108A) between the Spirit, Windsor Spitfires, and Niagara IceDogs. He joins the Spirit in their quest for the Memorial Cup on May 24th, with the tournament's opening game against the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors.
