Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starter Taylor Allen allowed only five hits and two runs through seven and two-thirds innings, but a two-run homer in the ninth tied the game from the Laredo Broncos. Amarillo would be able to win in the ninth on a Trent Lockwood RBI sacrifice to give the Dillas a 5-4 win on Thursday night in front of 2,937 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.
Dillas reliever Matt Smith (1-2) got the win, despite allowing the game-tying homerun in the ninth. Broncos reliever Carlos Alvarez (0-1) got the loss despite allowing no hits, since the winning run was his responsibility.
Amarillo would return home with an opening run in the first inning as Andrew Wong singled, went to second on a balk and scored on a Terrance McClain RBI single for a 1-0 Dillas lead.
The Dillas would add on another run in the third as Keanon Simon singled and went to third on an error. Simon would come across the plate on a Carlos Figueroa single to move Amarillo up 2-0.
Laredo would cut the lead in half in the fourth with an Argelis Nunez solo homerun and would tie the game in the sixth with an Andres Santos RBI single to make the score 2-2.
Amarillo would retake the lead in the bottom half of the sixth as Willie James singled home Figueroa while Simon singled home Justin Wenger for a 4-2 Dillas advantage.
Allen would give way to Robbie Wooley in the eighth, while Smith came in and allowed a Luis Ugueto walk and a game-tying David Cardona homerun to tie the game at 4-4 in the ninth.
The Dillas would take care of business in the ninth as Figueroa reached on an error off Alvarez. Laredo reliever came in and allowed a McClain single to move Figueroa to third, while Lockwood's RBI sacrifice fly gave Amarillo a 5-4 walkoff win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 22-19, while the Roadrunners fall to 14-27. Friday, Amarillo will host Laredo for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pregame at 6:50 pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
