Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball released their 2010 schedule today that will begin with a rematch, of the 2009 United League Championship, when the Dillas travel to San Angelo for a two-game series. United League teams will play a 93-game regular season schedule that will officially open on Thursday, May 27 and conclude on Monday, August 30. The Dillas will play 48 home games that include many promotions and events but the season will be highlighted with a tribute to the men and women of the military on July 4th and an annual appearance by "The Famous San Diego Chicken".
After the short two-game series in San Angelo, the reigning United League Champions will open their home schedule when the Colts follow the Dillas back to Amarillo for a four-game series, starting Saturday, May 29. Unlike their championship season in 2008, the Dillas captured their second-consecutive United League trophy on the road a season ago winning the fifth and deciding game in San Angelo, so this year's home opener will be more than just the start of another season, it will be a championship celebration for the city and fans. The back-to-back six-game series certainly will provide an exciting start to the season but more notably, it will provide the two heavyweights equal opportunity to gain the early upper-hand in the standings. The Dillas and Colts will play an additional nineteen times which includes closing out the regular season in what could be a very decisive three-game series starting Saturday, August 28 in San Angelo.
This year Independence Day festivities will kick-off with a National Anthem performance by Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) artist Shiloh and the evening will end with a spectacular fireworks show. After thirty-five years of entertaining crowds, meeting Presidents, enshrinement into baseball's Hall of Fame, and countless cameos in commercials promoting America's favorite brands, there are plenty of cities on "The Famous San Diego Chicken" all-time favorite list of places to visit, including Amarillo. Amarillo was fourth on the list but after a fourth-consecutive sell-out crowd in 2009 the small West Texas town moved into third, leaving only Salt Lake City and Indianapolis ahead of the Dillas.
The Dillas pride themselves on providing affordable family entertainment and that trend will continue this year with the addition of Kids' Eat Free Tuesdays, Wacky Wednesdays, and extended happy hours. During each of the seven Tuesday home games, children 12 and under will receive a free hot dog and small soft drink with the purchase of a ticket and when accompanied by an adult ticket purchase. Wacky Wednesdays will be just that, wacky! Every Wednesday home game, guests will get a chance to make a deal with general manager Mark Lee by spinning the "Wacky Wheel". The wheel will have a number of special prizes for the entire crowd. In the past, fans 21 and older have been able to enjoy special happy hour prices on alcoholic beverages for one-hour prior to every home game but this year, happy hour will happen after the game too. From the time the gates open and from the last pitch to last call, fans can enjoy their favorite 12-ounce can beer at two for $3. And, for adult fans that prefer soft drinks can purchase a 16-ounce soda for just $1 during happy hours.
Last but not least, 2010 will be another "Season of Giving" as the Dillas continue their commitment to "Building a Better Amarillo" reaching out to work hand-in-hand with local and regional non-profit organizations. Fans that do their part will still get a free game ticket by making in-park donations to the High Plains Food Bank, Lions Club, and many other charities. And yes, the ever-popular "Free Nights" will be back on select home games. On behalf of their Corporate Partners, the Dillas are able to provide free admission to thousands of area residents who otherwise might not be able to afford coming to a game. In addition to the free tickets, these unique events provide area businesses the opportunity to market their name, product, service, and brand to a captive audience while giving back to the community by utilizing their event to raise funds for charity. Who would have ever thought such a crazy concept would produce such special purpose, only in Amarillo.
ULB Opening Day 2009 is Thursday, May 27 when the Dillas travel to San Angelo for a two-game series against the Colts. The reigning United League Champions will open their home schedule Saturday, May 29, when the Colts follow the Dillas back to Amarillo to play a four-game series. Season tickets are still available and single-game tickets officially go on-sale Monday, May 3rd.
