February 23, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Buffalo Bandits News Release
Buffalo, N.Y. (February 23, 2005) â The Buffalo Bandits announced today goaltender Steve Dietrich has been named Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 for his performance in the Bandits, 11-7, road victory over the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday night. With the win, the Bandits regain sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division.
"Steve has been one of the top goalies in the league this entire season," stated Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott, who acquired Dietrich in a trade with Rochester in 2001. "He is ranked number one in the NLL at this point and I'm glad to see that he's finally getting recognized for his efforts. I was disappointed to see that he was not named to the East Division All-Star team because I really felt that he deserved to be there."
The NLL's leader in goals against average (10.72 per game) this season, Dietrich made 43 saves en route to his fifth victory, despite being physically ill. His illness was so sever that prior to the game, the Bandits coaching staff considered starting backup Derek General or rotating the two goaltenders in each quarter. The final decision to give Dietrich the start was made just minutes prior to the opening face-off.
The Kitchener, Ontario native is currently ranked second in NLL history in saves (3791) and is the Bandits all-time franchise leader in wins (27) and saves (1601). In six games this season, Dietrich boasts a record of 4-2 and 0.790 save percentage.
The Bandits next home game will be against the Philadelphia Wings at the HSBC Arena on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 7:30 PM. The date was rescheduled due to a conflict with the 2005 NLL All-Star Game.
Ticket packages are available by calling the Buffalo Bandits Ticket Office at 1-888-467-2273, or fans can purchase packages at the HSBC Arena Box Office or any Tickets.com locations. For more information, log on to www.bandits.com.
